Day 1: Rabat

Discover the imperial cities on horseback: with this itinerary, we will visit two of the legendary cities on horseback: Fes and Rabat. Before the arrival of the Arabs, these lands were inhabited by the Berbers, who lived in settlements that could hardly be considered true cities. With the spread of the Muslim faith, the medina urban model emerged. When we talk about the splendid imperial cities of Morocco, culture and history intertwine. Visiting these cities allows you to relive the past of the oldest dynasties that ruled these lands, leaving an indelible mark on the country. The particularity of these fascinating places is the grandeur of the mosques and elegant palaces, the fortified walls still existing today and as splendid as ever. Let's discover together the peculiarities of the 4 imperial cities of Fes, Marrakesh, Rabat, and Meknes:

FES: The oldest, its origin dates back to the 8th century. Despite being the oldest among the imperial cities, it still preserves the architectural beauties of the past intact. Defined as the artistic and cultural capital, Fes has ancient art galleries and the first religious university in the Islamic world. Not far from the city, don't miss the ruins of Volubilis, an archaeological site declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

MARRAKESH: The red city, due to the characteristic color of the clay constructions. Founded by the Almoravid dynasty, it offers many attractions, starting with the Saadian Tombs, a funerary complex of the Saadian dynasty; the Menara basin and its gardens, a real oasis of peace; the Koutoubia Mosque, the spiritual emblem of the Islamic world, is an example of typical Almohad dynasty architecture, with its simple style and lack of excessive decorations; and the splendid Jemaa el Fna Square, chaotic and bustling.

RABAT: Overlooking the sea, it is the largest of all the imperial cities. What makes it different from the others is the sea, with its splendid beaches. Its typical monuments alternate with characteristic landscapes made of pastel-colored houses. Among the attractions of the place, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the royal tomb that houses the Sultan of Morocco and his family, is worth a visit.

MEKNES: and its fortified wall. Defined as the Versailles of Morocco, the imperial city of Meknes is surrounded by a 40 km-long fortified wall. Passing through Bab Mansour Gate, located in the southeastern part of el Hedim Square, you enter the characteristic Jewish quarter and can admire the royal stables, famous for their majestic capacity: it is said that there were up to 12,000 horses inside, at the disposal of the rulers.

ITALY/RABAT (-/-/D) Arrival in Rabat and transfer on your own to the Bouregreg Hotel. The meeting with our correspondent is scheduled for 20:00 in Rabat at the hotel. If you arrive early, we recommend a visit to the Medina, the Oudaiya Gardens, and the Hassan Tower. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in a standard double room.

Day 2: Volubilis

RABAT/VOLUBILIS (B/L/D) After breakfast, departure by car to Meknes, where your horses await you for the start of the trekking. You will set off through a myriad of small villages, cornfields, and olive groves on Mount Zerhoun, from which you will enjoy a splendid view of the city of Meknes. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Volubilis, an ancient Roman city, with ruins of ancient splendors, temples, and mosaics. The mobile camp will be set up nearby, under some olive trees, where you will eat and sleep under the stars.

Day 3: Meknes

VOLUBILIS/NZALA DES BEN AMMAR (B/L/D) Through a landscape that could almost be defined as lunar, you will reach the top of Mount Zegota, up to Moulay Idriss and the Nzala Des Ben Ammar springs. Mobile camp set up under the olive trees.

Day 4: Meknes

NZALA DES BEN AMMAR/OUED MIKKES (B/L/D) You will continue through what are called the "white mountains"; here, time seems to have stopped, you will observe how agriculture is done entirely by hand. The day continues through the Oued Mikkes area and many small Arab villages. The mobile camp will be set up on top of a cool mountain.

Day 5: Fes

OUED MIKKES/FES (B/L/D) You will enter the area called "Valley of Death," so named because it is crossed by a river whose water is so salty that it is completely unusable for irrigation, for animals, or for humans. You will then arrive at the city of Fes, where we will leave the horses and enter the city by car to visit the Medina, the Souk, and the famous Mausoleum of Moulay Idris II and the imposing Karaouin Mosque. Dinner in the Medina and overnight stay at Riad El Yacout or similar.

Day 6: Fes

FES/ATLAS MOUNTAINS (B/L/D) Leaving Fes, you will cross areas very different from those seen so far, but still interesting. Lunch at a drinking water spring and in the afternoon crossing the first part of the famous Atlas Mountains, where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Rabat

ATLAS MOUNTAINS/RABAT (B/L/D) The trekking continues through the hills until you return to the stables in the afternoon, where you will bid farewell to your faithful travel companions with some melancholy. You will have the opportunity for a brief visit to Meknes, from where you will then be taken to Rabat for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8:
