Day 1: Spoleto

SPOLETO (-/-/D)
Choosing to visit Umbria on horseback will not disappoint you. The entire region is worth exploring, and what better way to do so than on horseback! The Umbrian countryside offers magnificent landscapes, fields of multicolored flowers, forests, breathtaking plains, and gentle hills.
We will ride around the Spoleto area, where a place of great natural and spiritual interest is the "sacred forest" of Monteluco, with its dense vegetation of evergreen holm oak. Don’t miss Villa Redenta, which stands on the remains of an ancient Roman villa, featuring a beautiful park with century-old trees: cedars of Lebanon, holm oaks, and magnolias, where the local nobility of Spoleto used to stroll between the 17th and 19th centuries.
In your free time, be sure to visit the town of Spoleto, which should be seen at least once in a lifetime. A medieval town rich in history and mystery, Spoleto is among the most fascinating art cities in Umbria, with more than 2000 years of art, culture, and international events, such as the Festival dei Due Mondi, making it a place of unique beauty and a symbol of culture worldwide. Founded in 90 B.C., it retains, alongside evident Roman influences, the structure of the medieval era. Don’t miss the Cathedral with its facade embellished with mosaics, the Roman Theater, and the Basilica of San Salvatore.
Arrival at the Spoleto train station and transfer to the Equestrian Center (approximately 20 minutes by car). Accommodation in an agritourism facility adjacent to the stables, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
Breakfast, assignment of horses, and a soft start with a 3-hour trek to allow all riders to familiarize themselves and get comfortable with their horses. We will descend from the plateau that hosts the riding school through the chestnut forests of Valle San Martino.
You will have time to admire the majestic century-old trees with their gnarled trunks, which have provided chestnuts for generations of locals, and discover wild cyclamens and other flowers growing in the forest.
There are several parts of the path perfect for a light gallop for those who are able, before hearing the hooves of our horses echoing through the picturesque village of Strettura.
On the way back, we will encounter the Church of San Pietro Martire, a small chapel located in the middle of nowhere, still used by some of the faithful from nearby villages. We will return to the stables in time for lunch. Free afternoon, dinner, and overnight stay at the equestrian center.

Day 3: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
Today will be a more challenging but very enjoyable day. The terrain and landscapes will vary along the 35 km we will cover in about 5-6 hours.
Through winding paths in the woods, we will reach the small village of Torrecola, before encountering a delightful stone chapel and heading toward wider trails.
It is now time to begin the long yet gentle climb to Monte Fionchi, a large mountain meadow at 1300 meters above sea level, where riders can refresh themselves by drinking fresh spring water.
A delicious picnic will be served in a meadow near one of the many country chapels that dot Umbria, the Church of Sant'Antonio.
The return journey will take us through the wild and breathtaking landscape of the Valnerina, passing through abandoned villages clinging to the mountainsides or nestled on hills, before reaching the stables.
Dinner and overnight stay at the equestrian center.

Day 4: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
Today's trek is less demanding in terms of duration and terrain variety, but there will still be opportunities for more experienced riders to gallop and stunning views to enjoy.
From the stables, we will head towards the medieval village of Montebibico, through the chestnut groves surrounding it, where time seems to have stopped.
From there, a series of trails, bordering small farmhouses, will gently lead us to the foot of Monte Acetella, today's destination.
Along these paths, there are plenty of opportunities for a comfortable gallop, while not forgetting to stop and admire the wonderful views.
In the distance, you can see the peaks of the highest mountains, the stables, and the village of Montebibico, nestled in the mountain across from us. We will then climb to the top of Monte Acetella, a short ascent, and once again, the breathtaking scenery will leave you in awe, as if we were on the roof of the world.
We will return to the stables through other trails in time for lunch. Free afternoon, dinner, and overnight stay at the equestrian center.

Day 5: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
Pianella is the destination for today's excursion, taking us on a full-day trek of about 5-6 hours (35 km in total), a true paradise in the heart of the Umbrian countryside.
Along the route, we will ride through woods and along trails that will lead us down into a hidden valley, where we will stop to admire the delightful village of Castagnacupa, with its recently restored stone houses.
From here, we will pass by a wonderful Romanesque church and through more forests before reaching a beautiful shaded meadow, where, once the horses are stabled, we will stop for a picnic.
After lunch, we will head towards the ancient village of Pompagnano, near Spoleto, before returning along hilly trails, not forgetting to admire the splendid village of Catinelli, perched on a rocky massif.
We will return to the stables in the late afternoon, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 6: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
Today's trek is a half-day trip, taking us through a magnificent property known as "La Tenuta dello Schioppo," more commonly called the Butterfly Park.
The wide trails are perfect for quickening the pace, and in every direction, we will enjoy beautiful views of mountains, valleys, and villages nestled on the hills.
In a clearing, we will find a rustic table made by hunters from the wood of local chestnut trees, and this will be our stop for an aperitif.
In May and June, these woods are covered with wild strawberries.
We will return to the stables, with a free afternoon to relax or visit Spoleto and its surroundings (for those without a car, we can arrange transfers – extra charge).

Day 7: Spoleto

SPOLETO (B/L/D)
On the last day in the saddle, we will embark on what can be considered a pilgrimage to the now abandoned Monastery of Battiferro, covering about 35 km in 5 hours.
Leaving the stables behind, we will cross the village of Montebibico and continue along trails and mule tracks to reach the mountain village of Cecalocco, and then through vast chestnut groves, the small village of Battiferro, still inhabited despite its isolated location.
A trail through the woods will lead us to the monastery, located on a promontory with a magnificent view of the Valnerina.
Here, we will stop for a well-deserved picnic lunch before returning to the stables via a different route, where we will be greeted with a farewell aperitif. Dinner and overnight stay at the equestrian center.
