Day 1: Reykjavik

ITALY/REYKJAVIK/SKEIÐA (-/-/D)
Winter in Iceland is magical, the atmosphere is soft and the surrounding nature sparkles in the sunlight reflecting off the snow, creating endless rainbows of light. The Northern Lights dance across the night sky. The extreme darkness of the Arctic winter makes Iceland one of the best locations to observe this phenomenon: the name derives from the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the northern wind, Borea. The Northern Lights are created by particles from the sun released during solar explosions. When these particles interact with the atmosphere within the Earth's magnetic field, energy is released, lighting up the skies and creating a matrix of colors. The Northern Lights occur high above the Earth's surface, where the atmosphere becomes extremely thin, at altitudes of 100-250 km.
You will ride to the most famous places in Iceland, continuing the local tradition with the strong Icelandic horses and their special “tölt” gait. You will visit the Secret Lagoon where you can relax in the mineral-rich waters, then ride along the rivers Þjórsá and Hvítá, and visit the Golden Circle, the main tourist route.
Plan for an independent transfer from Keflavik Airport (KEF) to Reykjavik. The meeting with the guides will take place at 6:00 PM (at the BSI bus station). Transfer by bus to Kálfhóll Farm, where we will meet our guide and the horses. A welcoming dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Reykjavik

SKEIÐA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will assign the horses and our guides will explain the Icelandic horse and its special “tölt” gait. The day will be an immersion into Icelandic winter, as we ride in a relaxed atmosphere along the mighty Þjórsá river (the longest river in Iceland: 212 km). We will enjoy the southern countryside with impressive views of the mountain ranges, snow-covered pastures, and the distant Hekla volcano. After a magical day in this winter wonderland, we will visit the Secret Lagoon where you can relax in the mineral-rich waters. Dinner will be served at the Kálfhóll farm, followed by an evening walk with the guide in search of the Northern Lights.

Day 3: Reykjavik

SKEIÐA (B/L/D)
We begin the day with a walk through the winter fields at the Kálfhóll farm before lunch. Our journey then takes us to the Hvítá glacial river with its milky water flowing from the glaciers in the highlands. We will ride through lava-covered and mossy terrain and enjoy the surrounding views. After a short break near the river, we will mount our horses again and return through the beautiful countryside to Kálfhóll farm for a delicious dinner. There is nothing better after a wonderful day in the saddle than to relax in the warm hot tub, looking up at the clear sky and hoping the Northern Lights will appear.

Day 4:

SKEIÐA/REYKJAVIK/ITALY (B/L/-)
After breakfast, we will have one last half-day ride along the Þjórsá river. We will admire the breathtaking winter pastures for the final time. After a light lunch, we will say goodbye to the horses and take a bus to visit the Golden Circle: the three most impressive natural sites in southern Iceland. The Golden Circle consists of the Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park. Geysir is a geothermal area with boiling mud pits and the lively Strokkur geyser, which shoots water 30 meters into the air every few minutes. At Gullfoss, you will have the chance to admire the powerful waterfall and feel the strength of the water as it plunges into the canyon while standing near the cliffs. The final stop is Thingvellir National Park, known for its extraordinary geological phenomena. Since 2004, Thingvellir has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its geological uniqueness and historical significance. We will arrive in Reykjavik around 6:00 PM. Consider a flight in the evening or ask us to book a night’s accommodation for you.

Despite its wild spirit, due to still living in the wild today, this horse is able to establish a unique friendship and bond with its rider.
