Day 1: Colletorto

COLLETORTO (-/-/D)
We propose the Lago di Occhito as the destination for a horseback trekking in Molise. This lake, divided between Molise and Puglia, with its 210 million cubic meters of water, is the second largest artificial reservoir in Europe by capacity. Created at the end of the 1950s, it has significantly contributed to improving the humidity conditions of the surrounding land, giving a new boost to agricultural cultivation. Over time, this reservoir has naturally become an area rich in both scenic and natural interest, as it has become the natural habitat for hundreds of plant and animal species. The small porcupine, the marten, badgers, and even wolves, along with a myriad of birds, including many predators such as the black kite, buzzard, herons, and migratory species, as well as reptiles and amphibians, can be found here. Particularly interesting for enthusiasts is the aquatic fauna, consisting of freshwater fish such as carp, chub, catfish, pike, tench, and eels, which have made the lake an ideal destination for fishermen.
The many roads and paths that intersect around its perimeter, through cultivated fields and small forests, naturally form an exciting route to explore on horseback. This valuable reservoir is the heart of the adventure "in the saddle" that we offer. Three days spent in nature, riding horseback, discovering the rich wildlife of the reserve, exploring nearly untouched places, on the border between two regions… with special attention to food, another central aspect of this experience. Traditional local dishes, made with local ingredients, will be prepared in two historic agriturismo establishments in Molise.
Arrival independently at the Equiturismo De Girolamo in Colletorto by dinner time or arrival at the Termoli or Campobasso train station between 15:00 and 18:30 (or at the airport or station in Rome for an additional fee). Transfer to the Valle del Fortore: a rural area characterized by cultivated fields, small orchards, forests, and gently sloping hills toward the valley. Just a few steps away, the silent majesty of Lago di Occhito, 13 square kilometers of water completely surrounded by nature. Check-in, horse presentation, and dinner with local traditional products. Overnight stay at the agriturismo.

Day 2: Colletorto

COLLETORTO / LAGO DI OCCHITO (B/L/D)
A delicious breakfast will be served at 9 AM. The typical morning mist that lingers around the reservoir will gradually dissipate. It's time to set off! The horses will be prepared. The excursion will move along the many paths in the area for a few hours. You will appreciate the notable variety of flora and fauna living near the lake. You might spot a family of wild boars, perhaps a wolf or a small otter. You will also see the soaring flights of kites and buzzards. At 1:30 PM, a picnic lunch will be served by the lake, then, after some relaxation, the journey will continue toward the ancient Maniero Cerulli. Here, dinner will be served, and guests will be welcomed for the night.

Day 3: Colletorto

LAGO DI OCCHITO (B/L/D)
Breakfast, horse preparation, and everyone in the saddle for another day of trekking. A new side of the lake will be discovered, following roads, paths, and trails that wind through the surroundings. In the silence, you will hear the calls of animals and the sound of hooves on the grass or gravel. After a long ride, it's time for another picnic lunch, once again made with local traditional products. After some relaxation, the journey will continue to the Agriturismo Horse Ranch, where you will stay for the night. Traditional dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4:

B/L/-)
After breakfast, you'll mount your horse for the final leg of our fascinating journey. Return to the Colletorto stables in time for lunch. Departure independently or transfer to the Termoli or Campobasso train station by 16:30.

Note: The above itinerary is indicative and may be subject to changes due to weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control. Due to the small accommodation structures, we may need to place riders in different nearby structures than those listed in the program.
