Day 1: Pantanal

ITALY/CAMPO GRANDE / PANTANAL (-/-/D)

The Pantanal is the largest wetland area in the world, covering more than 140,000 square kilometers, partially extending into Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. It was formed between 2 to 5 million years ago as a sedimentary basin and today is an isolated, flat marshland surrounded by various mountain ranges. The name translates to "big swamp," as "pantanal" is the Portuguese word for swamp. This floodplain, without any incline, means the rainwater has nowhere to flow. In 2000, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and became part of the Biosphere Reserves. It features a unique ecosystem with diverse aquatic life, hundreds of different fish species supporting a rich population of birds (over 600 species), as well as large populations of reptiles and mammals such as caimans, capybaras, monkeys, jaguars, armadillos, and anteaters. Despite over 200 years of agricultural activity, the biodiversity and landscape of the Pantanal have remained intact. The Pantanal offers visitors pristine, wild nature with open prairies, "vazantes" (low-lying areas often seasonally flooded), "brejos" (marshes), "capões" (slightly raised areas not subject to flooding), "cordilheiras" (larger than capões), "corixos," and bays, which are permanently flooded areas. These unique habitats host rich flora and abundant fauna. Anyone who has the opportunity to visit this tropical paradise hidden in the heart of South America and experience its lush vegetation and wildlife, and interact with indigenous people, will return home seeing the world with a new perspective.

Pick-up from Campo Grande International Airport (CGR) and transfer to a local farm in the Rio Negro region of the Pantanal (approximately 6 hours, or a charter flight available for an additional cost). In the afternoon, presentation of the program and a boat tour along the river. Enjoy stunning landscapes and the chance to spot wildlife (piranhas, caimans, etc.). Dinner and overnight stay at Fazenda Barra Mansa.

Day 2: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

After breakfast, experience the real work of the farm, a true life experience. Expect the unexpected as there are different tasks to be done throughout the year in the daily routine of a Pantaneiro cowboy: separating calves, caring for livestock, roping, herding, moving cattle to winter pastures, or raising cattle as part of a herd relocation.

Day 3: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

While assisting with cattle work, you will have the opportunity to see many of the countless species of birds and animals that inhabit this region and experience the authentic traditions of the Pantanal. In the Pantanal, the rhythm of activities is dictated by nature, but this doesn’t prevent the farms from carrying out all necessary management tasks that have been adapted over time to be in harmony with the region’s energy balance and sustainability.

Day 4: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

Depart for a full-day horseback ride along the banks of Vazante Castelo. We will ride until we reach the Fly Camp Refuge Primavera, a wooden camp in the middle of the Pantanal. Tonight, experience a unique stay sleeping in hammocks with lanterns lit. The Refuge has basic facilities: mosquito nets for insect protection, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen (if preferred, a mattress can be provided – please request at the time of booking).

Day 5: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

After breakfast, depart for Fazenda Eldorado. Ride through the beautiful Pantanal landscape, enjoying the lush flora and diverse fauna. A great opportunity for birdwatching and spotting wildlife.

Day 6: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

At Fazenda Eldorado.

Day 7: Pantanal

PANTANAL (B/L/D)

On your last day horseback riding, depart at dawn to meet the local cowboys and experience a day of cattle work. Dinner and overnight stay at the farm.
