Day 1: Sao Paulo

SAO PAULO / MOCOCA (-/-/D)

Despite being one of the main economic, industrial, and financial hubs of South America, the Sao Paulo area retains a very diverse rural side that deserves to be explored on horseback. Join us to discover the plantations on horseback; from Mococa, we will cross historic coffee plantations that have been producing some of the finest coffee in the world since the mid-20th century. The region's ideal altitude (between 800 and 1300 meters), dry winters, rainy summers, and fertile soil contribute to the high-quality coffee produced here. These areas offer ever-changing landscapes: from plains to mountains; up and down slopes, and plateaus that provide a continuously evolving view dotted with springs and waterfalls. This diversity is also reflected in the richness of local crafts: leatherwork, ceramics, embroidery, jams and other preserves, honey, coffee, cheese, and, of course, the local alcoholic beverage, cachaça... From the town of Mococa and the historic Fazenda Nova, breeders of horses for seven generations, we will explore not only famous estates but also dense forests with lush vegetation, plains, hills, and clear water lakes. We will also ride through the Atlantic rainforest, where it’s often possible to spot the Jequitiba tree, a giant of the forest. This species can grow up to 40 meters in height and 3 meters in diameter. It’s estimated that the oldest known specimen is about 3000 years old.

Pick-up from Sao Paulo International Airport (USD 500 to be paid locally – up to 3 people) and transfer to near Mococa, at Fazenda Nova, where we will spend the night. If the weather permits, we will go for a short ride to get to know the horses.

Day 2: Mococa

MOCOCA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will start exploring the 120 acres that belong to the Fazenda estate. If we’re lucky, we may spot monkeys and deer in the Atlantic forest vegetation. Dinner and overnight stay at the Fazenda.

Day 3: Mococa

MOCOCA / SERRA DE SANTA MONICA (B/L/D)
Today we will leave the Fazenda Nova estate and venture further into the plantations, mostly maize and beetroot fields. We will stop for lunch in the shade of Fazenda Figueira, home to a large breeding farm of Mangalarga horses and Brazilian saddle horses. After lunch, we will ride again through vast coffee plantations and orange groves, eventually arriving at Fazenda Serra de Santa Monica, an old colonial house that has been restored, where we will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Sao Paulo

SERRA DE SANTA MONICA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will head north toward the state of Minas Gerais, passing sugarcane plantations and small family-owned farms. We will cross the Canoas River and enter the typical rolling hills landscape that characterizes this area. We will stop for lunch at Pedra Branca and then return to Santa Monica for a refreshing swim in the pool.

Day 5: Sao Paulo

SERRA DE SANTA MONICA / SANTO ANTONIO DA AGUA LIMPA (B/L/D)
We will return along the road toward Fazenda Bocaina, which, as we will see, is currently dedicated to cattle and sheep farming, as well as dairy production. We will pass Fazenda Lage, a house-museum dedicated to the history of coffee, before climbing the hills, where we will enjoy a particularly beautiful view of the area. We will arrive in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay at Fazenda Santo Antonio da Agua Limpa, where we will spend the next two nights.

Day 6: Sao Paulo

SANTO ANTONIO DA AGUA LIMPA (B/L/D)
The owner of the Fazenda will be happy to show us his organic coffee plantations before we get back on horseback to ride through more plantations and beautiful estates surrounded by forests and ancient trees.

Day 7:

SANTO ANTONIO DA AGUA LIMPA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will enjoy our final morning ride to explore the surroundings. We will then transfer by vehicle to the starting point of the trek, Fazenda Nova, in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will transfer to Sao Paulo International Airport.
