Day 1: Kupres

ITALY / SPLIT or SARAJEVO / KUPRES (- / - / D)

Have you ever thought about horse trekking in Bosnia? This land, ravaged for too long by wars and destruction, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered... Nestled in the heart of the Balkans, Bosnia and Herzegovina is an ever-changing area, a mix of nature and beauty capable of pleasantly surprising its visitors and leaving them breathless. For centuries occupied by the Ottoman Empire, Bosnia was the site of key and bloody events in the 20th century, such as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, which sparked World War I, communist rule, and the Bosnian War with the long siege of the capital. Its countryside is dotted with medieval villages, rivers, lakes, and the rugged Dinaric Alps. The area is home to interesting natural sites such as Jezero, which even gave its name to a crater on Mars. We will also visit Jaram, Javorac, and Crni Vrh, exploring these regions while based in Kupres. We highly recommend spending a day visiting the capital, Sarajevo: a city constantly evolving, where the colorful, vibrant historic center seems to contrast with a war-torn peripheral area. Its streets house symbols of three religions that, until the Yugoslav war, coexisted peacefully, earning it the title of Jerusalem of Europe: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Arrival at Split or Sarajevo airport. Meet our local representatives and transfer (1.5 hours from Split, 2.5 hours from Sarajevo) to Kupres in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dinner and overnight at a farm adjacent to the stables.
