Day 1: Svolvaer

Come and discover Norway on horseback with this itinerary in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, in the wild nature of Gimsoy Island. This archipelago is known for its breathtaking landscapes and colorful fishing villages overlooking the channels. We will ride between the mountains and beaches of the island and follow ancient Viking roads to discover Norwegian landscapes at the rhythm of the tölt. Depending on the season, take advantage of the northern lights or the midnight sun from your comfortable lodge located just a few steps from the beach. This horseback riding stay in Norway is a total immersion in the spectacular landscapes of the Lofoten Islands and the Viking culture that has shaped the country's history.

ITALY/LEKNES or SVOLVAER/ GIMSØY (-/-/D)
Fly to Leknes (LKN), Svolvaer (SVJ), or Evenes (EVE) between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. You will be picked up by our representatives and transferred to the Hov Gård stables, beautifully located on a white sandy beach on the island of Gimsøy, one of the six main Lofoten Islands. Most of the horses are Icelandic and descend from Viking-era horses in Norway.
Check-in at the Lofoten Links Lodges; enjoy a welcome dinner at the Låven restaurant. After dinner, take your first ride for about 2 hours to meet the horses. In April, late August, September, and October, you might witness the Northern Lights during the tour. In May and early August, the endless light of the midnight sun will accompany you.

Day 2: Svolvaer

GIMSØY (B/L/D)
We depart from the stables and ride along the ancient Viking trails, enjoying long gallops on the Arctic white sand beaches. Depending on the season, the day’s ride will last between 4 to 6 hours, and lunch will be either a picnic or at a local café, depending on weather conditions.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.


Day 3: Svolvaer

GIMSØY (B/L/D)
Another full day of riding that will take us to the beautiful Gjendalen Valley, known for being the venue for cross-country skiing races. As with the previous day, the duration will vary depending on the season and weather.

Day 4: Svolvaer

GIMSØY (B/L/D)
Having explored Gimsøy in the previous days, we will now travel to another Lofoten island, Aalan Gård. We will be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and visit the famous farm called Aalan Gård, where you will experience the true and natural atmosphere of the Lofoten Islands. A delicious lunch will be served, and we’ll get a chance to taste many of their famous goat cheeses.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.


Day 5: Svolvaer

GIMSØY (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will saddle up again to continue exploring a nearby island, enjoying the spectacular landscapes. A lunch stop will be made at a local farm, Lofoten Gårdsysteri.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.


Day 6:

GIMSØY / LEKNES or SVOLVAER/ ITALY (B/-/-)
Breakfast and transfer to the airport in time for your flight back to Italy.

HORSES: The cavalry consists of 52 horses, of which 40 are for excursions. All horses live on pasture. They are Icelandic horses that carry the history of the Vikings and their sagas; they have 4 gaits, including the tölt (a fast and very comfortable gait), sometimes even 5 with the amble. They have an exceptional character, are small, sociable, and comfortable.
PACE: 4 TO 6 H IN THE SADDLE. You need to be comfortable with all three gaits and able to control the horse in open spaces.
WHAT TO BRING: Layered riding clothing, depending on the season consider the country's temperatures. Also consider waterproof and windproof clothing. Sunscreen and protective helmet.
MINIMUM AGE: 14 years

TYPE: Equestrian stay with overnight accommodation in a lodge

ACCOMMODATION:
5 nights at the recently renovated Guest House adjacent to the stables in the town of Hov, a 50-minute drive from Svolvær Helle airport. There are 6 double rooms with 3 shared bathrooms. Common area with kitchenette and lounges. Hov is one of the oldest places in the Lofoten. Many historical monuments have been found here, including burial sites of two Viking ships, a huge amphitheater probably used for sacrifices and pagan rituals, and various Norwegian Viking tombs. We believe the resident Viking chief, Tore Hjort, was here more than 1000 years ago. He is mentioned in the Viking sagas and was killed by King Olav Tryggvason during the Christianization of Norway.
