Day 1: Hurghada

Egypt and the Red Sea can offer a much more varied experience than just the beach and snorkeling. Here, we offer you the opportunity to explore Egypt's desert on horseback, surrounding the coast of the most famous tourist destinations. The desert around Hurghada is called the Eastern Desert and is part of the Sahara Desert located east of the Nile River, between the river and the Red Sea. It stretches from Egypt in the north to Eritrea in the south and also includes parts of Sudan and Ethiopia. The Eastern Desert is also known as the Red Sea Hills, the Arabian Desert, and the Arabian Mountain Ranges because it is bordered by the Red Sea in the east and was originally inhabited by Arabs in pre-Islamic Egypt.
The Eastern Desert is relatively mountainous, with hills reaching altitudes of over 1,900 meters. The Red Sea Hills are an arid area that receives less than 200 millimeters of rain per year with high variability.
The Red Sea Hills are a source of porphyry, which was extracted as early as the fourth millennium B.C. and are still inhabited by the Beja people, who practice pastoralism and live mainly near the dry riverbeds, known as wadi, which seasonally flow into the sea and Nile, where vegetation is limited.
The Eastern Desert was an important mining resource for the ancient Egyptians. Limestone, sandstone, granite, amethyst, copper, and gold were among the stones and metals extracted from the desert, and the remains of thousands of quarries, camps, and roads are scattered throughout the mountains and wadi of the region.
