Day 1: Sundance

Imagine being on a ranch in Wyoming: ...a herd of Mustangs thundering across the ground. The cowboy atop a gentle hill watches over the herds that dot the prairies stretching as far as the eye can see. Here, nothing matters except day and night, rain and sunshine; you follow nature's rhythms and forget about the city's noise. Welcome to Wyoming, the land where the myth of the Far West was born! Hills and wide plains characterize this landscape, interrupted only by a few isolated farms and many heads of cattle. The authentic ranch in Wyoming that will welcome you is located just two hours from Rapid City Airport and an hour from Gillette Airport. It is set in 70,000 acres of owned land, in a region in the northeast of Wyoming between the famous Black Hills and not far from the borders of Montana and South Dakota. The Black Hills, named Pahá Sápa in the Lakota language, "black hills" due to the vegetation that made them appear dark from a distance, serve as a backdrop to the beauty of these places, which can only be experienced. There are many activities to do in the saddle: depending on the months, you can participate in calf branding or cattle gathering for movement between pastures. But that's not all; nearby, you can reach some local highlights:

Devil's Tower, a national monument

Mount Rushmore, a national monument with its faces carved into the granite rock of the Black Hills

Deadwood City, in South Dakota, which still preserves its architecture from the time of the great gold rush

ITALY/RAPID CITY/SUNDANCE (-/-/D) Plan to arrive at Rapid City Airport (South Dakota) about 2 hours from the ranch or Gillette, about an hour away. For those who do not want to rent their own car, it is possible to arrange a paid pick-up by our correspondents (by 8:00 PM – otherwise an overnight stay in Rapid City is required) and transfer to the ranch. Dinner included with arrival at the ranch by 7:00 PM.

Day 2: Sundance

to 7: SUNDANCE (B/L/D) The weekly program can vary greatly depending on the season and the desire to get involved in the ranch work. The main activities in the various months are: April, May, June: calving season and branding of those born during the winter. The herds are moved to the summer pastures. July/August are relatively quiet months with no significant cattle work needed. Therefore, we offer a ranch stay suitable for families, with two hours in the saddle daily, fishing, and kayaking. We highly recommend a rental car to explore the breathtaking landscape and take day trips to the national monument Devil's Tower, just a few miles away, or cross the Black Hills to reach Mount Rushmore (faces of presidents carved into the rock) or visit Deadwood City and reach the Badlands. Additionally, there are often horse shows and auctions, and rodeos. September/October: the cattle are gathered and moved to the winter pastures; this is the big "round-up."

Day 8:

SUNDANCE/RAPID CITY/ITALY (B/-/-) Breakfast and departure on your own to Rapid City Airport (or transfer upon request). If the flight schedule allows, you can enjoy one last ride in the saddle. (Contact us for a personalized quote in case of itinerary continuation).

USEFUL INFORMATION: (B/L/D): B = breakfast; L = lunch; D = dinner
DURATION: 8 DAYS / 7 NIGHTS
EQUIPMENT: WESTERN saddle
HORSES: QUARTER HORSE, MUSTANG: all horses provided are docile and used to ranch work
PACE: Working with the cattle in the distant mountains from the ranch is reserved for more experienced riders; the level of involvement in ranch work will depend on the rider's experience and comfort in the saddle and their willingness to participate. Less experienced riders still have the opportunity to approach the cattle in the less rugged areas around the ranch and enjoy the surrounding landscapes in the saddle with our professional cowboys.
WHAT TO BRING: work clothing, boots, hat, gloves are recommended. The weather can be variable, so consider layered and waterproof clothing. Insect repellent and sunscreen. TYPE: Equestrian Stay at a Ranch

ACCOMMODATION: WORKING and GUEST RANCH. An authentic working ranch located 2 hours from Rapid City Airport and one hour from Gillette Airport. The accommodations are rustic but comfortable, with shared or private facilities, a common area for meals and relaxation. In the evening, a saloon with country music is available (alcohol is extra for a fee). Full board treatment: the cuisine at the ranch is typical western style, mostly offering meat from our livestock, potatoes, pasta, and vegetables. A generous American-style breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM, a packed lunch during outdoor work days, and a family-style dinner at 6:30 PM in the main dining room. Even in July and August, full board treatment is offered with a "guest ranch" formula.
