Day 1: Billings

If the idea of moving cattle in the USA has always been your dream, this is the adventure you've been waiting for! In the months of April and May, you will depart from the town of Lovell in Wyoming to Billings in Montana, with hundreds of cattle following for about 70 km, and once you reach your destination, the cattle branding operations will be completed. From the end of August to October, you will take the reverse route, bringing all the cattle back from Billings to Lovell, to the main ranch for winter pastures. On both routes, you will be based at a real working ranch, founded in 1898, which over these long decades has raised thousands and thousands of cattle and quarter horses. It is located within a reserve, on a very varied terrain of over 35,000 acres: it includes hills, mountains, and canyons. Every evening you will be picked up at the point where the cattle stop and transported by support vehicles to the ranch for a shower and a good hot meal. Moving cattle in the USA can be a lot of fun, but not for everyone; weather conditions may be adverse, but you can't stop... you will ride towards the eastern part of the Pryor Mountains, known by the natives as 'Hitting Rock Mountains' due to the abundant fern. These mountains run along the Wyoming state border, and some local legends say they are inhabited by 'little people,' small men similar to dwarves. Depending on the seasons and weather conditions, the route may vary: Devil’s Canyon and Deadman’s Creek, the Bad Pass Trail, and the Mustang Reserve.

ITALY/BILLINGS/LOVELL (-/-/D)
I begin Sunday with the pick-up at Billings International Airport, Montana (or from a hotel in town) at 3:00 PM (USD 120 per person to be paid locally) and transfer to the ranch in Lovell, Wyoming. Dinner and overnight at the ranch.

Day 2: Billings

B/L/D)
Meet the cowboys, saddle the horses, and depart along the fences that run alongside the Shoshone River. Today we will cover the land north of Lovell, up to the Montana border, where the cows will be checked before they can cross the border.

From DAY 3 to DAY 5: (B/L/D)
We will move the herd of adult cows and calves over the next few days. We will pass through Horse Thief Canyon, Devil’s Canyon, and Deadman’s Creek.

Day 6: Billings

B/L/D)
We will arrive at the summer pastures. It will be necessary to check that each calf has found its mother, and then we can enjoy the magnificent scenery.

Day 7:

B/-/-)
Departure by vehicle at 8:00 AM to reach Billings Airport, Montana, by around 12:00 PM.

SPRING HERD MOVEMENT (APRIL-MAY)
Our spring moves take place from mid-April to mid-May, with four different dates, departing from Lovell, Wyoming, to finish at the working ranch 50 miles to the north. On Monday, we will meet the cowboys and saddle the horses kept in pens near the Shoshone River at our farm in Lovell. By the end of the first day, we will have reached the Montana border, where an inspection will take place before crossing the border the next day. The challenge will be to cover about 50 miles with a large number of cattle, including cows with calves, over four days. We will reach the ranch on Thursday evening, located within the Indian reservation, passing through Devil’s Canyon and Deadman’s Creek. The ranch, with traditional structures over 100 years old, spans 33,000 acres of land: green hills, vast plains, and canyons. On Friday, we will check that everything is in place and enjoy the surrounding views. On Saturday, around 8:00 AM, we will depart by vehicle to return to Billings, Montana, in time for our flight to Italy.

FALL CATTLE ROUNDUP (SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER)
Three days with our cowboys to round up all the cattle from the pastures: young cattle, pregnant females, and calves, to return to the farm in Wyoming.
