Day 1: Djerba

At least once in a lifetime, one must experience riding a horse in the desert... the sound of hooves muffled by the sandy ground, the vastness all around you, and the starry sky that seems to envelop you like a dome. In this adventure, you will ride through the Grand Erg, the heart of the Sahara, the desert par excellence, the most famous and iconic desert in the world. Tunisia is covered by 40,000 square kilometers of sandy desert, including the Grand Erg Oriental, the central part of the Sahara Desert. An immense sea of 6 million tons of sand, whose landscape continuously changes, sometimes hiding surprises: wells obstructed by sand, mountains towering over the dunes. An extreme territory that offers the most beautiful panoramas of dunes sculpted by the constantly blowing winds, sometimes gently undulating, other times rippling like impetuous waves, coloring yellow and pink at dawn. Wandering on horseback in the desert, we will encounter troglodyte villages like Douiret and Chenini, and fresh oases like Ksar Ghilane. The desert has inspired poets and writers of various eras, and we like to recall the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of the famous novel 'The Little Prince,' who explains the essence of the desert with just a few words: 'I have always loved the desert. One sits down on a sand dune. Sees nothing. Hears nothing. Yet through the silence something throbs, and gleams.

ITALY/DJERBA/CHENINI (-/-/D)
Arrival at Djerba airport, meeting with our representatives, ferry to the mainland, and transfer to the oasis of Chenini, about two hours away. Dinner and overnight stay around the fire in a camp.

Day 2: Djerba

CHENINI (B/L/D)
Breakfast, allocation of horses, and departure towards Douiret, an ancient village made up of troglodyte dwellings. Visit to the fortified village (ksar) and stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we will return to the camp, leave the horses, and travel by vehicle to visit the village of Chenini, also dominated by its ksar, which once served as a granary and refuge in case of attack. Spectacular for its architecture, the village of Chenini is considered one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Tunisia. Return to the nearby oasis camp for dinner and overnight stay under the stars.

Day 3: Djerba

CHENINI/SAHARA DESERT (B/L/D)
We will initially ride through rather mountainous landscapes before gradually reaching more desert-like areas. Long gallops along dry riverbeds and encounters with camels and sheep herds. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 4: Djerba

SAHARA DESERT (B/L/D)
Today, on horseback, we will reach the majestic dunes of the Eastern Great Erg, which extends its sea of sand over 600 km east/west and 200 km north/south. In the afternoon, we will reach the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where we can dive into the hot springs. Dinner and overnight stay in a fixed camp, where we will appreciate a shower and some comfort.

Day 5: Djerba

SAHARA DESERT (B/L/D)
Breakfast and then back in the saddle for a half-day ride to an ancient French fort built on Roman ruins that dominates the desert as far as the eye can see. Afternoon of relaxation to enjoy the hot springs. Dinner and overnight stay in the fixed camp at the oasis.

Day 6: Djerba

SAHARA DESERT (B/L/D)

SAHARA DESERT/DJERBA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will reach the Jebil National Park, just 8 km away. With a bit of luck, we may spot some gazelles. Return to camp for lunch.
