Day 1: Port Macquarie Airport

ITALY/PORT MACQUARIE/KENDALL (-/-/D)

We aim to offer you an experience to discover the Comboyne area! Well-trained and forward horses for riders of good level, coming from all over the world. The quality of the horses and their special training set the pace for this ride, which includes long canters. The starting base is an authentic farm nestled in the picturesque upper Lorne Valley. This one-week program offers rides through beautiful forests and countryside, crowned with excellent food and first-class service.
During the week, as we cross the diverse landscape of the central-northern coast of New South Wales in Australia, there will be plenty of opportunities to observe wildlife in their beautiful natural habitat. We will follow trails and tracks in the forests, through 20,000 hectares (50,000 acres) of state forest, encountering small corners of rainforest, eucalyptus forests, waterfalls, streams, and historic railway lines once used for timber transport. We will ascend and descend steep ridges, cross agricultural land, and explore local attractions such as a winery, cafes, and a Macadamia Farm to taste unique regional products.
Our journey will take us along the Pacific Ocean on kilometers of long deserted beaches, and we will ascend the Comboyne Plateau, an elevated agricultural region boasting green rolling hills and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean – make sure to bring your camera! In the evening, after refreshing ourselves with a swim in the pool, we will relax and enjoy the natural beauty from the veranda of our private cottages or share drinks and stories with fellow riders in the large common area of the lodge, where guests and guides dine together. A delicious meal accompanied by local wine and coffee will be served next to a crackling fire in the colder months or outdoors on the veranda in the summer.
Pick-up from Port Macquarie Airport (PQQ) at 5:15 PM or from Kendall train station at 6:15 PM (transfers not available for the short program).

Day 2: Port Macquarie

KENDALL (B/L/D)
First ride through the wooded areas surrounding the lodge, with tall eucalyptus forests and rainforest zones, beautiful trails in the peaceful bush, and short, fun canters. Stop for lunch under the tall eucalyptus trees in the heart of the forest. This is a short 3-hour ride to get familiar with the horses. Wildlife we may encounter during our rides and at the farm includes wallabies, goannas, and many bird species, including the black cockatoo. Occasionally, we may even spot a koala or an echidna!

Day 3: Port Macquarie

KENDALL (B/L/D)
Ride up the impressive Comboyne Mountain (670 m), whose summit is visible from the lodge. Magnificent 360-degree views from the top: panoramic views of the vast NSW state eucalyptus forest, regional agricultural properties, the NSW Mid North Coast, Bago Bluff National Park, the Comboyne Plateau, and the beginning of the Great Dividing Range. This is the most challenging route for the horses, with uphill canters, long steep sections, and some rough terrain. Horses and riders will enjoy a well-deserved lunch break at the summit before descending and returning to the lodge.

Day 4: Port Macquarie

KENDALL (B/L/D)
A long day in the saddle, starting along a historic timber tramway, heading to the nearby Bago wineries. Crossing waterways (home to platypuses, though rarely seen) and possibly moving some livestock as we ride through neighboring agricultural properties. We will follow the historic Longworth's Tramway Heritage Trail and see remnants of the timber railway line that operated in the 1920s. Picnic lunch under the shade of tall eucalyptus trees. Then, an adventurous descent and amazing long canters for up to 4 km on beautiful forest trails. At the winery, we’ll taste local products while admiring the vineyards. From October to November, the flowering jacarandas give off an incredible fragrance. We will leave the horses here and return to the lodge by vehicle.

Day 5: Port Macquarie

KENDALL (B/L/D)
A fantastic day at the beach, with canters along the Pacific Ocean. Keep an eye out for dolphins among the waves and close encounters with kangaroos. Lunch break on the beach, near a colony of the unique native Australian Grasstrees, or enjoy Fish & Chips at the local fishery co-op. Between May and November, whale sightings are possible. Transfers to and from the beach are by car and horse transport (45 minutes each way).

Day 6: Port Macquarie

KENDALL (B/L/D)
The final day in the saddle, through agricultural lands and forests and rolling fertile countryside, with views of the Pacific Ocean. The richness of Comboyne’s unique topography and its fertile soils add a special touch to the journey, with dairy farms and avocado orchards dotting the landscape. Stop at Waitui Falls for lunch. In the afternoon, panoramic views of the Three Brothers mountains, a place of great spiritual significance to the Biripi Aboriginal people.
