Day 1: Dakar

Senegal stretches across the Sahel, the transitional zone between the arid Sahara and the humid regions of Guinea. The climate is tropical, with a long dry winter season and a rainy summer season. Join us for a journey through Senegal, a fantastic way to get closer to Black Africa. This trip can be described as a "Safari of People" because, unlike many other African countries, Senegal does not offer breathtaking landscapes or exotic animals, but rather a journey among humanity itself. You will return from Senegal with a new way of experiencing human relationships and the memory of children’s smiles, along with a new perception of time. The Senegalese will quickly teach you the true meaning of "teranga," their sense of hospitality and welcome, making you feel like an old friend.
We will explore this country on horseback, starting from Dakar and discovering Gorée Island (1978), located opposite the city, which from the 15th to the 19th century was the largest slave trading center in Africa. Then we continue towards Saly, exploring the coast with its lagoons, beaches, and colorful local villages. An authentic slice of Senegal, experienced at the slow rhythm of our horses' pace.

ITALY/DAKAR (-/-/D)
Arrival at Dakar International Airport, pick-up by our local partners, and transfer to your hotel in the city. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Saly

DAKAR/SALY (B/L/D)
After breakfast, departure to explore Dakar, a modern metropolis full of contradictions. We will discover residential neighborhoods, markets, craft galleries, the university, the Renaissance Monument, Independence Square, the Medina district, and more.
Then we continue to Gorée Island. From the 15th to the 19th century, Gorée was the largest slave trading center on the African coast. Alternately under Portuguese, Dutch, English, and French control, its architecture is marked by the contrast between the dark slave quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders. Today, Gorée remains a symbol of human exploitation and a sanctuary for reconciliation.
Return to Dakar and transfer to Saly. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Les Bougainvillées (or similar).

Day 3: Saly

SALY (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we ride for about 2.5 hours through the Mbour districts along the beach to reach the harbor: a huge human anthill full of activity, seemingly disorganized yet perfectly regulated. Mbour hosts one of the largest fish markets in West Africa. Contrary to the typical image of a "port" with docks, here boats land directly on the beach. All activities – unloading fish, selling, cutting, salting, and drying – happen on the sand. Every section of the beach is designated for a specific task, with higher prices the farther the fish is processed from the sea.
Return to the hotel in Saly for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Saly

SALY (B/L/D)
Today, about 5 hours on horseback. After breakfast, we depart for the Somone Lagoon. Upon arrival, we will leave the horses and board a boat to explore the lagoon. Covering 700 hectares, the Somone Lagoon is classified as a nature reserve. Numerous bird species inhabit it year-round, including pelicans, herons, egrets, and pink flamingos. Between the lagoon and the baobab forest lies the "tann," a vast sandy area that expands or contracts depending on tides and seasonal rains.
Return to the hotel in Saly for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Saly

SALY/MBODIENE (B/L/D)
A long day in the saddle with about 6 hours of riding. After breakfast, departure towards Nianing, where we will visit its church. Covering 455 square meters and shaped like a shell, it was designed by architect Nicolas Vernoux-Thélot, inspired by the spiral cymbium shells common along the Petite-Côte and Senegalese shores. Picnic lunch en route and continuation to Mbodiene for an evening in a bivouac.

Day 6: Saly

MBODIENE/MBISSEL (B/L/D)
Today, we will ride for about 4 hours. After breakfast, departure through stretches of baobab forests and palm groves towards Fadial, where we will see the largest baobab tree in Senegal, with a circumference of 23 meters and 850 years of life. The baobab is an essential part of Senegal's historical and cultural heritage. Known scientifically as Adansonia digitata or "Gouye" in Wolof, it is deeply rooted in local traditions, valued for its nutritional and medicinal properties. Picnic lunch and continuation through the swampy areas of the Saloum Delta – the innermost part of a tropical tidal marsh, alternating between "bare tann" and "grassy tann" depending on vegetation.
Arrival in Fadiouth and visit to the Shell Island on foot: an artificial island formed by shell heaps, connected to the coast by a wooden bridge. Lunch at a riverside restaurant. Dinner and overnight in bivouac.

Day 7: Saly

MBISSEL/WARANG (B/L/D)
Departure along the beach for about 4 hours on horseback. We will pass through Nianing and coastal villages, with a picnic lunch on the beach, continuing to Warang for dinner and overnight in a tented camp.

Day 8:

WARANG/DAKAR/ITALY (B/L/-)
After breakfast, departure along the coast, crossing picturesque districts of Mbour. We will be welcomed by a local family for lunch, experiencing Senegal’s national dish, Thiebou Dienn, accompanied by mint tea.
After lunch, we head back to Saly where rooms will be available to freshen up and change before the transfer to Dakar Airport (evening flight recommended).
