Day 1: Cefalù

PALERMO / CEFALÙ (-/-/D)
This is one of the most sought-after horseback adventures in Sicily, offering the chance to cross the island from north to south. This trek is a full immersion in Sicily’s rich history, agricultural traditions, legends, and natural beauty.
Highlights include:
The Carbonara Massif, the second highest mountain in Sicily
The Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Alto, the highest Marian shrine in the world
Sutera, an ancient village steeped in history
Torre Salsa, one of Sicily’s best-preserved coastal areas

Arrival at Palermo Airport and transfer to Agriturismo Casa “Il Bosco”, a restored 19th-century noble estate immersed in the wild nature of the Madonie Park, with breathtaking views over Sicily’s northern coast and the Aeolian Islands. Dinner with local products and overnight stay.

Day 2:

CEFALÙ / PIANO BATTAGLIA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, horse assignment and departure from Casa "Il Bosco" around 8:30 a.m.
We begin with a scenic uphill ride through wild vegetation and Mediterranean woods with panoramic views over the Tyrrhenian coast. We pass the renowned Sanctuary of Gibilmanna, then ride through forests of holm oak, cork oak, and downy oak into the territory of Isnello. After a picnic lunch, we climb the northern side of the Carbonara Massif (1979 m), through lush oak and beech woods, reaching Piano Battaglia, a mountain resort in the heart of the Madonie Park. Dinner with local specialties and overnight at Rifugio Marini.

Day 3:

PIANO BATTAGLIA / FEUDO CATUSO (B/L/D)
Breakfast and departure around 8:30 a.m.
We follow a high-altitude trail deep within the Madonie Park, gradually opening up to views of inland Sicily. We pass the medieval town of Polizzi Generosa, where we stop for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, we descend the mountains and follow ancient "trazzere" (historic trails) to reach Agriturismo Feudo Catuso, a beautifully restored 13th-century farmhouse. Dinner with local products and overnight stay.

Day 4:

FEUDO CATUSO / MAPPA (B/L/D)
Breakfast and departure around 8:30 a.m.
We begin to enter Sicily’s historical grain heartland, following the Regie Trazzere—ancient transhumance routes established by the Bourbon government to allow free movement of livestock and people across the island. We ride near the Sanctuary of Madonna del Bilici, located near Sicily’s geographical center. Picnic near Marianopoli train station, and continue through endless fields of wheat and forage until we reach Mappa, an old estate once owned by the Princes of Spadafora, now featuring a swimming pool. Hearty dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5:

MAPPA / ARAGONA (B/L/D)
Breakfast and departure from Mappa around 8:00 a.m.
We ride through open fields toward the ancient village of Sutera, considered one of the oldest settlements in Sicily with evidence of prehistoric habitation. We continue through the Platani River Valley, one of the main watercourses in western Sicily, passing the scenic Monte Conca Nature Reserve. Picnic lunch, then we ride on to Agriturismo Principe di Aragona, a restored farmhouse with a swimming pool. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6:

ARAGONA / GIARDINA GALLOTTI (B/L/D)
Breakfast and departure around 8:30 a.m.
We ride through farmland near Aragona, arriving at the Macalube, a unique natural phenomenon where methane gas pushes up cold mud from underground, creating small craters. In the afternoon, we continue toward the village of Giardina Gallotti, crossing vineyards and olive groves. Overnight at La Casa di Bacco, a countryside guesthouse surrounded by vineyards and featuring a swimming pool. A rich dinner is served with tastings of the estate’s wine.

Day 7:

GIARDINA GALLOTTI / TORRE SALSA (B/L/D)
Breakfast and departure around 8:30 a.m.
Today’s route takes us through the rolling hills of Agrigento, dotted with olive and almond trees and offering sweeping views of the Mediterranean coast. Picnic near Realmonte, then arrival in the afternoon at Torre Salsa, a coastal nature reserve with some of Sicily’s most pristine beaches. Our adventure ends here. Dinner at a beachfront restaurant just steps from the elegant Luna Minoica lodge, where we stay overnight.
