Day 1: Bulawayo

ITALY / BULAWAYO / WEST NICHOLSON (-/-/D)
In southern Matabeleland there is an ecotourism project offering horseback safari experiences within a protected natural environment inside a private conservancy, where animals are wild and free.
The area is therefore accessible to riders with an intermediate riding level and allows sightings of many animals such as zebras, giraffes, eland, hippos, wildebeest, baboons, impala (and other antelope species); with a bit of luck also elephants and crocodiles, as well as a great variety of birdlife.
The main activity consists of horseback excursions across the savannah, offering visitors a unique and respectful way to observe wildlife, fully in harmony with animals and the ecosystem. Guests are based at a family-run ranch that provides authentic wildlife encounters, unforgettable rides and adventures across 50,000 acres of pristine African wilderness.
In addition to horseback safaris, Murenje Eco Safari promotes sustainable tourism, wildlife conservation and the involvement of local communities. The experience therefore combines outdoor volunteer activities, environmental education and discovery of the territory, offering a responsible way to explore the African landscape.

Pick-up at Bulawayo Airport (BUQ) and transfer of approximately 3.5 hours to the West Nicholson area, crossing rural landscapes and African bush. Upon arrival, welcome by the staff and accommodation in traditional African-style thatched buildings at Rocky Glen Ranch. Free time to settle in, explore the ranch and meet fellow guests. Communal dinner and first evening around the campfire under Zimbabwe’s starry sky.
